November 22, 2009
Blood Drive at DPC

It was a great turnout for the first blood drive at DPC on 22nd November, 2009.  We needed at least 12 people to sign up for the event - but 22 wonderful souls gave a pint of blood with many more on the waiting list.

United Blood Services took over two of the classrooms, however, they were not expecting such a great turnout so came with less nurses than were actually needed.  They promise to have more workers at the next event.  We thank those of you who waited such a long time to fill out paperwork and answer questions, and then give so willingly for such a great cause.

The replenishment drive was to help support Mia McPoland - the 7 year old grand-daughter of Chris Watling - who has a rare blood disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA).  Mia's body does not produce red blood cells and has received 52 transfusions so far and usually needs a transfusion about every 3-4 weeks in order to stay alive.

A big heart-felt thank you to all the donors for their generosity of a unit of blood and to give up their Sunday afternoon to do so.

Thank You!
